Our year in review: a look back at Robertson Low's 2021 highlights

By Robertson Low

From product launches, additional capacity, a record-breaking new business year to team-building days and charity initiatives, here is a look back at what the team at Robertson Low got up to during 2021.

January

January was all about focusing on New Year resolutions. Cybersecurity concerns came to the forefront for many businesses due to accelerated digital transformations, increased remote working, and the rise in more sophisticated cyber-attacks. Consequently, our cyber specialist Lesley Fitzpatrick compiled and shared a list of cyber-related resolutions to help keep clients safe and secure during the year.

February

The Jerusalema dance was a huge craze early last year, and the Robertson Low team couldn’t resist giving it a go. This was the start of a fun and eventful year at Robertson Low.

March

We continued to work with our broker partners to place business with the latest solutions and capacity for the construction sector. And in March, we shared details of our Contractor’s facility, a facility launched in November 2020.

April

With many businesses closed and strict restrictions imposed on the country, we adapted to a new normal with a team-building day out spent enjoying the outdoors. On a lovely, sunny Saturday in April, we climbed the Sugarloaf Mountain, in Co. Wicklow.  It was great to be out in the fresh air and spend time as a team outside the office.

May

Aston Lark Ireland was launched following the merger and rebrand of Robertson Low and Wright Insurance Brokers in May 2021, along with their subsequent rebrand to Aston Lark Europe Limited, trading as Aston Lark Ireland. With the Robertson Low brand widely recognised in the insurance sector for providing insurance solutions for brokers, the brand name remained. However, the company behind the brand is now Aston Lark.

“Robertson Low is proud to be part of the Aston Lark family. The next chapter is going to be even more rewarding for all involved”, explains Mark Whelan, Wholesale Director at Robertson Low.

June

June was a record-breaking new business month, and to celebrate, the team got together to take on yet another physical team-building day out. This time, in Baysports Athlone.

A big thank you to all our brokers and insurers who contributed to and supported us to reach new heights.

We unveiled an exclusive facility backed by an A-rated insurer. This facility provided brokers with access to a new market for Professional Indemnity insurance for their clients on both a Primary and Excess Layer basis.

July

One month after we launched our Professional Indemnity facility, we shared the news of our new Petrol Station insurance product.”

We were delighted to provide our broker partners with a tailored product from an A-rated insurer to help keep their clients business fuelled.

August

Further to this, Veronica Donovan completed the Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship with IT Sligo. Since completing the programme, Veronica is now working as a new business executive and is a valuable asset to the Wholesale team.

September

After a busy summer of new product launches, we were back on the trail of boosting team morale in September with another team-building day out. This time, we took part in a 3-hour cliff walk in Howth and raised money to support Pieta House.

In September, we had some new joiners and welcomed Kaeleigh Foster, Mark Fanning and Patrick Hanaphy to the New Business team.

October

In October, we took part in a ‘Plank Off’ challenge with the wider Aston Lark group. Unfortunately, we couldn’t quite manage to hold it for long enough to win, but we had abs of steel afterwards. Well done to everyone who took part.

November

We were delighted to launch a new brand and our new underwriting service in November. RL Underwriting offers A-rated insurance products, flexible cover and excellent broker service through a dedicated underwriting team. We look forward to seeing Tim Barniville and Kaelan Condon continue to build on this exciting new brand in 2022.

The team was shortlisted listed for Sales Team of the Year in the 4th Annual Blanc Awards. The Blanc Awards recognise the achievements of individuals and teams across our business who have gone above and beyond, Congratulations to all winners.

December

In December, we participated in a winter dip in support of and to raise money for our chosen charity, Pieta House. Our second consecutive year taking this on, with the stakes raised and the wider Aston Lark group challenged to get involved. We received phenomenal support, and the event was a huge success.

Throughout the year, we also marked some personal milestones, as three of our team members celebrated 20 years with Robertson Low. We marked this special occasion with a small office party for Nicola Walsh, Sue Coogan and Mark Whelan.

That gives you a snapshot of the exciting and busy year that the Robertson Low team had.  We are looking forward to 2022, to working with our broker partners, bringing new and innovative products to the market, and continuing to grow the team.
